For years I’ve heard people talk about how writing is a lonely job, but I’ve never found it so. I think I’ve been blessed, not only with a job that allows me to do what I always wanted to do, but a job that allows me to travel all over, signing books, meeting other people who love books, speaking to book groups and conventions. I like meeting people, especially teachers and librarians and best of all—my readers.
I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was seven years old, and I’ve been writing and submitting almost that long, so you can imagine what a thrill it is to see this dream realized. I love my job and I work hard at it, doing my best to create stories that will entertain, enlighten, perhaps even inspire—or at the very least, keep the lonelies away for a little while. Picking up a book should be like revisiting your best friend. I think all the best books convey the same universal message: Hey, guess what? You’re not the only one.
